Kidz N Biz

Middle and High School Students

Kidz N Biz creates the next generation of innovators and changemakers. Students experience hands on experiential skills in entrepreneurship from various business curriculums; financial models and business owners. A ten week mentor lead after-school program in middle school gives students a glimpse into the world of entrepreneurship. Students work in teams on projects drawn from the real world and business experiences. Our goal is to prepare and equip students, grades 6-8, with the resources, knowledge, and expertise to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and vision. All students will continue to be exposed to business through participation in the Metropolitan Business League Jr. youth entrepreneurship club to expand their knowledge on entrepreneurship.

Boys N Business

Grades 9-12

The Boys N Business consist of a one- day experience for male students, grades 9-12, interested in art, science, technology, engineering, and math. Students participate in projects to allow them to engage directly in product innovation and entrepreneurship pertaining to the conceptualization, development, and commercialization of new products and services. Providing students activities to sharpen their skills through creativity, collaboration and innovation. Students will inspire to think entrepreneurially and innovatively.

College Express

Grades 9-12

College Express purpose is to increase high school and college attendance among those who, based on different risk factors, are less likely to succeed academically. To encourage youth to successfully transition between secondary and post-secondary education by supporting them as they navigate job, college and scholarship applications. Mini- workshops are offered throughout the school year to assist students with these challenging processes.

Entrepreneurship Tour Shop

Grades 9-12

The Entrepreneurship Tour aims to inspire young entrepreneurs. Students in grades 9-12 enrolled in MBL Junior Entrepreneurship club, Richmond Public schools, Richmond Technical Center and Petersburg Public Schools. They will be introduced to entrepreneurship during their visits to community partner small business development centers, and local colleges/universities. Tours will be conducted throughout the school year.

Girls Who Mean Business Summit

Junior and Senior Girls

The Girls Who Mean Business (GWMB) Summit provides an inspiring one-day conference for junior and senior girls from area public schools. The conference features focused training sessions, panel discussions and keynote presentations from experienced leaders with content focused on empowerment, leadership development, etiquette, entrepreneurship and the summit theme.

Middle School

The SHARK TANK event is a business pitch competition for students in middle school, which involves cash prizes to help students start their business or scale-up. The purpose of this program is offering young entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their idea to professionals and entrepreneurs. The participants will increase self-confidence, leadership abilities, creativity and attention to detail to assist in developing their businesses.

MBL JR. ENTREPRENEUR CLUB

Middle and High School Students

The Metropolitan Business League youth entrepreneurship club is for middle and high school students interested in entrepreneurship and pursuing a career in the business world. Our youth programs provide real-world experience for young entrepreneurs through workshops, guest speakers, panel discussions and opportunities to participate in business competitions and expos. We now offer a youth membership to students attracted to the fast-paced world of business called MBL Junior Entrepreneur.

Remarkable Girls Luncheons

Grades 9-12

The Metropolitan Business League working in partnership with Richmond Public Schools, Petersburg Public Schools and local businesses provide luncheons for high school girls. At each luncheon, girls can inspire to think entrepreneurially and pursue their dreams in becoming leaders in business. During the luncheon girls have a chance to have a chat with influential women in business who share their story and business lessons in an open dialogue. The girls will leave each event with a better understanding of business and be inspired to pursue their own vision. Richmond Children Business Fair

Middle and High School Students

The Richmond Children’s Business Fair is an annual event for creative middle and high school students and their parents, who are looking for a way to expand their business concepts and develop interest in being entrepreneurs. We are partnering with the Youth Business Exchange. Kids develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at our one-day marketplace.

RVA LinkUP for Teens Who Mean Business

Middle and High School Students

The RVA LinkUP for Teens Who Mean Business is an annual event for middle and high school students to provide a positive and enriching experience in career readiness. Students will link up with small businesses and community resources to learn what it would be like to be an entrepreneur. The event is designed for students who are looking for a way to expand their business concepts and develop their interests in being an entrepreneur and leader in business. Students will have the opportunity to meet actual business owners, learn about what they do, and expand their network contacts that may be valuable in the future development of ideas.  Participants attend mini-workshops on business fundamentals such as developing the perfect elevator pitch, networking, marketing on social media, and Beyond the Lemonade stand (turn your passion into profit). Students will learn about what it means to be an entrepreneur or what it’s like to develop a business and how to conceptualize business ideas.

Teens Who Mean Business

Grades 9-12

This program is designed to give high school students the tools to assist them in becoming confident entrepreneurs. Students will improve business, academic, and life skills through entrepreneurship education and business competitions.

Each week highlights a different topic to include entrepreneurship education, enterprise development and experiential programs. High school students will have opportunities to meet business professionals in the field and work with diverse entrepreneurs to learn form their experiences.

Teens in Business Shark Tank

Grades 9-12

The Metropolitan Business League presents Shark Tank in partnership with the Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity and Richmond Public Schools. The Shark Tank event is a business pitch competition for students above the age of 13, which involves prizes to help start their business or scale-up. The objective of this program is to offer young entrepreneur’s an opportunity where they can present their idea and develop their business.

MBL’s Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (YEI) is designed to give students the tools to assist them in becoming confident entrepreneurs. Students will improve business, academic, and life skills through entrepreneurship education and business competitions, such as the Teens Who Mean Business SHARK Tank. MBL’s YEI’s goals are to

  1.  Help increase the awareness and aspiration of young people,
  2.  To explore self-employment as a legitimate career path, providing reliable living wages,
  3.  Students will generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, and
  4.  Learn how to pitch their ideas of owning their own business.
